  1. Using a Chord Inversion to end the Birthday Song

I keep practicing the Birthday Song to keep it fresh in my mind, but the ending where I have to quickly go from the G chord to the C chord is hit or miss for me with the target practice.

I am currently on Couse 2, Class 6 and the use of Chord Inversions got me wanting to try them in the Birthday Song. So instead of the left hand ending going from G-B-D to C-E-G, I invert the C chord and go from G-B-D to G-C-E. No more misses!

I just thought I would pass this along just in…

  2. Great course!

I am currently on Class 2 of Course 2. I am having some difficulty playing 7th chords smoothly, but I am improving each day. I can play The Birthday Song with the oom-pa-pa pattern 100% correct and without the lead sheet. I am happy to say that I purchased all 6 courses. I feel that Scott is sincere in wanting to help people play piano. I can’t wait to see how much I will improve in the coming months with Scott’s system of teaching.

  3. Birthday song

Many thanks Scott for adding the extra video on fingering the Birthday Song. You're reading our minds! Very helpful! I was good to go after your additional instruction.

  6. Just like Scott said!

Thanks so much for this lesson! I've been playing off and on for 65 years and only sight reading music. I can now play Happy Birthday and not worry where the music is for it! Love it! I'll be using it for my granddaughter's birthday on 12/23!

  9. YOU’RE THE BEST!

Scott, just jumping back into it after taking off for the summer.....which I don’t recommend, by the way. But your style of teaching, allows us students to regroup, backtrack, etc. and get back up to speed relatively guickly. You make it fun! If you can teach an old career naval officer to play the piano, you can teach anybody!
Please keep doing what your doing, and be true to yourself. Your dedication shines through loud and clear. Thanks so much.

    Kind regards,

    Gordy Smith

  10. Summer echoes and some applause

Summer is over at my lake house. I had placed the digital keyboard on the porch and played with abandon. Particularly in the evening, the sound wafted through the neighborhood, and to my surprise, had a nice response from those who heard me.

Additionally, for the first time, when having visitors, both young and old, I had a chance to play for others. What a rush, and I believe, genuine applause.

    Scott, thank you so much
    Steve

  11. Three songs first day! Awesome beyond awesome!!!

Day 1. Inspite of 2 sons playing 12 years, one with a piano performance degree (classical) I'd wished, but never got to it! On the serious list since January 1, yet still hadn't touched the keyboard (August 25 today).

Then this morning, glancing FB, here's this free webinar offered by The Piano Guy. Time options included the first, to start in 10 minutes. I was there!

Took copious notes. And screen shots. And then I was in!

Course 1 Classes1& 2, through Lesson 8 completed today. And 3 songs! Jingle Bells, when the Saints Go Marching In, and a pick…

  12. This method of teaching is like having recess all day!

I've been a teacher for more than 20 years. One consistency is the class loves recess - the anticipation, enemies become teammates for 30 minutes, everyday is exciting. This method of teaching and encouragement is wonderful.

  13. This is delightful piano playing/teaching. After years of traditional lessons, I'm learning completely stress free.

Piano in a Flash is the way a baby learns how to walk, naturally, uninhibited, relaxing.
Traditional lessons are like going from crawling, skip natural walking, and go straight to ballroom dancing. You never learned how to simply walk. You are expected to ballroom dance if you just practice more and more and more.
Relaxing, Piano in a Flash, piano rests my soul and clears my mind to the point of nurturing peace.
Scott, thank you for making classes relaxing, humorous, and encouraging.

  14. Intervals tip I stumbled over..

Scott. Occasionally, I will sneak over to your “bonus” lessons if something interests me. Specifically, when getting into your improvisation tips, I notice they are (at least for me) a great help in my getting comfortable with learning the intervals. I try to think ahead with my right hand for specific notes. This is forcing me to concentrate on those elusive interval notes, and I find that I am nailing them more efficiently now, and it’s much more enjoyable. Kind of killing two birds with one stone, wouldn’t you say ??

.......or was that your sinister plan all along .....???

  16. Learning to play the piano has been on my bucket list for years. Tomorrow I am turning 76. I'm having a wonderful time!

NO ideas. I find the program absolutely wonderful. Scott is great. I am practicing about one hour a day...sometimes more....love the song selections in the gig book. I am videoing my progress weekly and posting it on my Facebook page. The whole thing is awesome!
